Introduction to the Conductor, Organist and Key Members

Background of Cardinal Bartolucci

Cardinal Domenico Bartolucci (1917–2013) was an esteemed Italian composer, conductor, and organist, best known for his lifelong dedication to sacred music. As the director of the Sistine Chapel Choir from 1956 to 1997, he played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting the rich tradition of Gregorian chant and polyphony within the Catholic Church.

A prolific composer, Bartolucci wrote numerous sacred choral works, masses, and orchestral pieces, deeply rooted in the classical tradition. In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI elevated him to the rank of cardinal in honor of his contributions.

Throughout his career, Cardinal Bartolucci remained a passionate advocate for the beauty and purity of sacred music, ensuring its place at the heart of the Church’s worship for generations to come.
